| Pci Modems | Installation | My modem is on COM3, I want it on COM2 | PCI modems contain their own COM chip. This chip will become the next LOGICAL com number. If you have COM1&COM2 on your motherboard, windows will assign the modem to COM3. If you previously 'manually added a COM3 that is not physically there' Windows will assign COM4 to the modem. If you delete the BAD com3 in devicemanager, when you reboot Windows will reassign the mdoem to COM3! In short: Windows puts the modem on the COM port IT thinks is correct. The Com port the modem is on is not fixed and may change when new hardware is added to the system. Com2 is not BETTER than com6 or com26! |
