| External Modems | Troubleshooting | How can I install my external modem correctly? | 1) Ensure that the modem is detected and the correct driver is loaded. A) This is done by: - controlpanel>modems>remove all modems listed. - click add>next>windows will search for your modem, windows should FIND a standard modem - click>change driver>have disk and point to the location of your drivers then click finish. Goto step2 if windows does NOT FIND your modem, then you should confirm that the modem data cable IS connected to the rear of the computer AND ensure that COM1 is ENABLED in your BIOS. to do this: - press 'DEL' whilst booting and your system will go into a menu called the CMOS. In this menu, select peripheral configuration (or similar) In the peripheral config menu, ensure that: SERIAL PORT1 is set to COM1 (3F8) SERIAL PORT2 is set to COM2 (2F8) If you do change the settings to equal the settings above, please remember to press 'F10' to SAVE and exit. Once booted perform step A listed above. 2) Test the modem for response. Once the modem has been successfully found we need to talk to it to confirm it is responding correctly. B) This is done by: - controlpanel>modems>diagnostics> highlight the COM port list beside the MODEM driver>MOREINFO. - The modem will respond with a list of ATI settings. - ATI3 should be something similar to v2.x.x HCF (please note down this response) 3) Ask the modem to dial the speaking clock (this will test speaker and line control) - start>programs>hyperterminal>hyperterm.exe - for connection name type TEST, - click DIAL. If you hear 'the time sponsored by accurist....' then congrats, your modem hardware and drivers are successfully installed AND the MODEM section of control panel should not be touched EVER AGAIN. (exit hyperterminal and it will automatically drop the phone line for you) 4) You are now ready to install your voice software (supervoice) and web surfing software. Any issues you receive now will be SOFTWARE related and not modem related, you should not touch any drivers/commport/bios or BIOS settings to resolve them. |
