All modems Connection Speed MY OLD USR MODEM ALWAYS CONNECTED AT 54k? To ensure stability, the Rockwell based modems connect at the best connection speed, which may not be the fastest connection speed.

The fastest connection can be prone to dropouts and disconnects.You can tweek the Rockwell chip using the +MS= parameter to say only connect at 42000-56000 but this will affect reliablility and therefore is not recommended.
